Overview of Laboratory Integrations

Veterinary clinics analyze diagnostic samples using in-house laboratory equipment or external reference laboratories. Most clinics use a combination of both. Different device families are connected to Provet using different integrations. To integrate all your devices, you may need one or more integrations.

When you use a Provet laboratory integration, you can automatically send laboratory referrals with patient information to in-house equipment or a reference laboratory that will receive the sample. In-house and reference laboratory tests are saved as laboratory items in Provet, and these items are used when creating a laboratory referral on a consultation. Using a two-way integration, the results are automatically uploaded to the Provet laboratory referral once the sample has been processed.

A laboratory analysis often represents one test or value within a panel. Depending on the integration, some tests are created in Provet as laboratory analysis items and others as laboratory analysis panel items.

Laboratory integrations are add-ons to Provet. Contact our sales team for more information and advice on the best setup for your devices.

IDEXX InterLink™ Cloud Plug-In

The IDEXX Vetlab Station (IVLS) is a laboratory information management system created by IDEXX. It is the central IDEXX computer that connects, manages and communicates with one or more IDEXX analysers, such as LaserCyte, ProCyte Dx, Catalyst Dx and LaserCyte Dx. It also connects to another Windows computer that hosts its integration software, the IDEXX InterLink. IDEXX InterLink is a program that is used to connect with various external parties, such as practice management systems like Provet.

IDEXX InterLink™ Cloud Plug-In (ICP) is a Windows application developed by the Provet team. It is installed into the same computer that hosts the InterLink program. ICP is used to integrate a Provet account with an IDEXX VetLab Station and any analysers connected to it.

ICP provides a two-way connection, meaning that you can send laboratory referrals containing patient and owner information and the requested analyses from Provet directly to the IVLS, and the completed results are automatically transferred from the IVLS to the consultation and the patient records in Provet.

This integration can be set up with the Lablink option described above, but it is also available separately with the Cloud Plug-In, allowing you to do the setup yourself with your local IT administrator. If you prefer, you can also order setup services from Provet. The integration can be set up so that the IVLS can receive requests from one or several Provet clinic locations.

See how to set up the IDEXX VetLab Station integration.

ICP supports many IDEXX VetLab analysers and any additional instruments compatible with the IDEXX VetLab Station. For example;

  • LaserCyte

  • ProCyte

scil vIP

Using the scil vIP integration, you can connect laboratory results to the laboratory referral and upload the results to Provet. The results are attached to the original referral as well as included in the patient's history. Note that the connection is unidirectional and only sends results from your devices to Provet. See how to use the scil vIP integration.

Together with Zoetis, Provet has created an integration with the VetScan FUSE system. Using the integration, you can send laboratory referrals to selected VetScan devices and upload diagnostic results back to Provet. See how to use the VetScan FUSE Integration.

External Laboratory Integrations

IDEXX VetConnect Plus

Using the IDEXX VetConnect PLUS external laboratory integration, you can create laboratory referrals that are sent directly to an IDEXX laboratory and have the test results automatically uploaded to the original referral as well as to the patient records in Provet.

The integration provides an automatically generated list of lab test codes and test pricing. When adding IDEXX specific laboratory tests on a consultation, the items show '(IDEXX VetConnect PLUS)' after the test name.

See how to set up and use the IDEXX VetConnect PLUS integration.

This integration is a Provet add-on. Contact our sales team for more information.

Laboklin

In the traditional Laboklin laboratory workflow, a paper referral sheet is used for ordering analyses. Using the Laboklin integration, users can browse Laboklin analyses and order them directly from the Provet consultation page. The sample itself is sent to the Laboklin laboratory as usual.

See how to use the Laboklin integration.

Antech

Nationwide Laboratories (NWL)

Provet offers an integration with Nationwide Laboratories (NWL), a key external laboratory provider, available to practices operating within the United Kingdom.

This integration is designed primarily for the streamlined retrieval of lab results.

  • Practices cannot place referral orders directly through the integrated Provet workflow. All lab orders must be submitted to Nationwide Laboratories directly, outside of Provet.

  • As orders are placed externally, all results received via the integration will initially be classified as Orphan Results within Provet. Users must manually map these received results to their corresponding existing patient referral records. This is performed via the main laboratory dashboard in Provet (Dashboard > Laboratories > Orphan results).

  • The integration does not currently support automated updating of lab service prices. Practices are responsible for manually updating and maintaining their NWL price list within Provet whenever new price schedules are released by the provider.

Solumo

The Solumo integration in Provet offers veterinary clinics in Finland and Åland a way to manage pathology referrals and results. Solumo is a commercial veterinary pathology service that connects directly to Provet. This eliminates the need for manual data entry, saving your clinic time and ensuring accuracy.

When setting up this integration, your clinic will need to enter two mandatory identification fields provided by Solumo:

  • Customer ID

  • Business ID

Note

Ensure the correct IDs are entered to ensure correct functionality of the integration.

This integration supports the entire workflow, from placing the referral to receiving the final statement:

  • When you take a sample and register it in Provet, you can select Solumo as the laboratory. The available tests and their current prices are fetched immediately and shown in Provet. Once you select the tests and create the referral, Provet sends the information to Solumo’s system via an API. You then print the required printout and send the physical sample to Solumo.

  • Once the pathologist processes the sample and records the results, the pathology statement is sent automatically back to Provet. The statement is then updated directly into the patient’s information.

  • If you request an additional statement later, Solumo will send the updated results, and Provet will update the patient record. Provet supports multiple documents, meaning previous versions of the statement are saved and can still be viewed.

Ellie Diagnostics

The Ellie Diagnostics integration provides a laboratory connection specifically for practices operating within the US. This integration enables managing laboratory referrals and diagnostic imaging.

To begin using the Ellie Diagnostics integration:

  • The department where you plan to use the integration must be set to the USA market. If it is not, Ellie Diagnostics will not appear in the list of available providers.

  • The integration is activated by navigating to Provet Settings > General > Integrations > External laboratories .

  • You must contact Ellie Diagnostics directly to obtain your unique Clinic ID.

Once activated, you can configure several settings:

  • You will need to enter the Clinic ID and Account number to link your clinic's account.

  • A dedicated "VAT group" field is available in the external settings to set the appropriate VAT group for external laboratory items.

  • You have the option to set a Markup percentage for the lab items or use bracketed markup percentages.

  • You can choose to Enable automatic synchronization of laboratory items keep your test list updated.

  • To ensure lab tests from Ellie Diagnostics are visible in your Provet item catalog, you must check the box Allow editing external laboratory items within the External Laboratories settings.

Axiom/Finn

Provet offers a full integration with Axiom/Finn, which is available for practices operating in the UK and Ireland. This integration allows you to send lab referrals and receive results directly within Provet.

You have the ability to delete an order after it has been created. Order updates are not supported.

  • Once the integration is set up, you create referrals as you normally would in Provet.

  • After creating the referral, the correct referral form, generated by the Laboratory Gateway, will appear as an external attachment on the referral page. This form is essential because it contains a barcode that Axiom/Finn uses to match the physical sample to the electronic referral. You must use this form. Do not use the general referral print button, as this will prevent the sample from being correctly matched.

  • Results are received directly from the laboratory into Provet.

Note

If the general referral print button (designed for labs without an integration) is used, the referral form will not contain the necessary barcode. Without the barcode, Axiom/Finn cannot match the sample to the referral sent through the integration, which could lead to results being classified incorrectly.

Always use the form generated by the Laboratory Gateway.

To activate this integration, your clinic will need to obtain specific details directly from the laboratory:Contact Axiom/Finn:

  • Your clinic must contact ITSupport@axiomvetlab.co.uk to request the FTP Hostname, Username, and Password for the lab(s) you wish to integrate (Axiom, Finn, or both).

  • You will need to enter this FTP information into the integration settings for the correct lab (Axiom or Finn) in Provet.

  • You will also need to specify the margin percentage you wish to use for the Axiom/Finn tests.

  • For the account to activate and the tests to become available, Axiom/Finn must ensure that your designated FTP root folder contains a folder named "Out". If this folder is missing, the account will not activate.
