Generate an AI Summary for Discharge Instructions

This functionality is supported only for single-patient outpatient consultations.

You can use AI to generate a summary of your consultation, which can then be added to your discharge instructions.

The AI summary will automatically retrieve the following data from the consultation:

  • Consultation: start date, reason for visit

  • Patient: breed, species, gender, name, weight, age

  • Clinical notes: text

  • Diagnosis list: name, code, category, type

  • Procedures: name, quantity

  • Medicines: name, quantity, dosage, usage type, instructions 

  • Scheduled future appointments 

Once generated, you can review, edit, and personalise the AI summary before it is added to the discharge instructions. This allows you to ensure the information is accurate, clear, and complete before is shared with the client.

Requirements

To use this functionality:

  • The Enable discharge instructions generated with AI setting must be enabled under Settings > Clinic location > Clinical AI. You must also accept the terms in the Terms and conditions dialogue that opens when the setting is selected.

  • You need the ‘Add AI discharge instruction summary’ (read and write) permission.

Add the AI-Generated Summary to the Consultation

Note

Always verify the AI-generated text carefully. The suggestions may include inaccuracies and should be reviewed before sharing with the client.

  1. On the Consultation page, prepare your clinical notes and add all relevant items.

  2. In the Discharge instructions section, select the Generate with AI button. The AI summary will automatically retrieve the data from the consultation.

  3. Review and edit the summary manually as needed. If you wish to discard the draft, select Cancel.

  4. When ready, select Add to discharge instructions to insert the summary into the Discharge instructions field.

Once the AI summary has been added to the discharge instructions field, you can still manually edit the text if needed. Changes in the field are auto-saved, and the edit history is available via the link below the field.

If you add more items to the consultation after generating the summary, they will not be automatically included. In this case, you have three options:

  • Manually add the new item’s details to the Discharge instructions text.

  • Regenerate the AI summary by selecting the Generate with AI button again.

  • Use the Bring data option to add the new information.
