This article provides instructions on how to edit and delete laboratory referrals. You can edit or delete both internal and external laboratory referrals as long as the consultation is not yet finalised.
Edit a Laboratory Referral
-
Find the referral you want to edit.
-
Select the list button at the end of the row to open the referral page.
-
On the referral page, make your changes.
-
Select Save.
You can edit a referral even after the consultation has been finalised, as long as the referral is not locked. When editing, you can add or change referral status Results, Referral details, Internal notes, Request remarks, Laboratory remarks, and Sample location. It is also possible to add Attachments. However, you cannot add more analyses or panels if the consultation is finalised.
Delete a Laboratory Referral
You can delete a referral in two ways:
-
Find the referral you want to delete and select the trash bin button at the end of the row.
-
Alternatively, open the referral and select the Delete button at the top-right or bottom-right corner of the page.
If the setting Prevent referral delete if started or has results is enabled, you cannot delete a referral that is marked as 'Started' or has results. In this case, the Delete button will not be shown. To delete these referrals, you must first clear any results and save, or change the referral status to 'Not Started'. The Delete button will then appear.
If you mistakenly finalised a consultation with an unwanted laboratory referral, you must create a credit note for the laboratory items or the full invoice. If needed, you can also make a note in the patient’s file:
-
Go to the Patient card > Communication tab.
-
Select Add and choose a Type, such as Laboratory.
-
If necessary, connect the note to the Consultation and the Consultation laboratory request.
These notes are then visible in the patient’s history.
